Let me begin by stating outright – I am so blessed to have these first-world problems, and I have to laugh at some of the “problems” in the last few years that made me mad as hell:
- My acupuncturist moved away. When someone is sticking needles in your face, there is a lot of trust, but more importantly, a good acupuncturist is a healer. They have knowledge, but also energy. When Henry left, I cried.
- My cable company dropped MLB Extra Innings from their line up. HOW am I supposed to get my Phillies fix living in Dallas? And don’t get me started on the DH. That probably makes me more mad than just about anything.
- I dropped my phone in a river in England while I was on vacation – with almost a week still left on my vacation. Even with insurance, it cost me almost $200 replace my phone, but it was waiting for me when I returned home. But oh those photos I missed!
- This is stupid, but I hate it when a restaurant doesn’t mention ingredients that I hate. I ordered a sandwich the other day and it had roasted red peppers. Hate them and even though I picked them off, I had heartburn all day.
- Espresso doesn’t have an “x” and “exit” doesn’t have a “g”.
- Over refers to position, more than refers to quantity.
- Myriad should not have the word “of” after it. It is redundant and I hate that language is being dumbed down.
That was fun. Minor irritations done (although I am positive there are hundreds more – in pronunciations alone).
But as we enter Pride month, here is what really makes me mad as hell: When Christian conservatives talk about people living their lives as pushing an agenda. A GOP politician recently mentioned that having a gay character in the new Disney live action film Cruella ruined his childhood and that Disney was pushing the gay agenda down people’s throats.
Guess what? I am an ally and I am a woman living in Texas. If you want to talk about an agenda being pushed down your throat, try being a pacifist in open carry country. Try being a woman whose reproductive rights are being dictated by old white men. Try being a POC.
There are a lot of injustices in this world. Being “forced” to watch a gay character on screen – who, by the way is simply flamboyant, not engaging in any sexual acts – is not an injustice. It isn’t pushing an agenda and it certainly doesn’t have the power to go back in time and ruin your childhood.
Grow up or stay home and watch … oh hell, I don’t even know what to tell you to watch. But I know where I would like to tell you to go.
